The procedure

We will collect data in two ways: the parents fill in a questionaire and the children play linguistic games.

The questionnaire
The questionnaire that needs to be filled in by the parent or guardian will provide us with general information about the children’s background and their language use.

The experiments
All our experiments are designed as games for children between the age of 4 and 7.

If your child participates, s/he will take part in two different sessions that take place on two different days. In the first session the researcher will take some basic measures of language comprehension and production and two games will be played that measure cognitive and linguistic abilities. In the second session the child will take part in three more games, also measuring cognitive and linguistic abilities. On both days the linguistic tasks will be audio-recorded to allow the researcher to provide an accurate transcription of your child’s language production. Each session will have an approximate time duration of 1 hour. Children will be allowed to take breaks to minimise fatigue and maximise focus on the tasks at hand.

Afterwards, schools that participate will be rewarded with book tokens as a gift so that all children benefit, whether or not they have participated. The children participating in the experiments will receive a colourful certificate and a sticker.
